Sturgis, Michigan
A Sturgis Michigan Bed and Breakfast has its doors wide open, awaiting your arrival to vacation among the lovely parks and other sites here in Saint Joseph County. This town was settled in 1827, by Judge John Sturgis. His original home site can be visited at Pioneer Park.Located near the Indiana border and Notre Dame, you can imagine how lively the football season is in our city. Be sure to make your reservations at a Sturgis Michigan Hotel, and then check in before tailgating! If you’re interested in a quieter day, then why not visit the Amish and the Mennonites for an authentic Amish meal, and the opportunity to check out the quilts, leather goods, and hand made furniture for sale there. There are plenty of things to learn while enjoying your Sturgis Lodging. For starters, did you know that Sturgis was formerly known as Ivanhoe and Sherman, and now has a German sister city called Wiesloch? The third week of May is a great time to visit. That’s when political figures come to walk in the annual parade, which kicks off Michigan Week for the entire state. What about more of those parks? Memorial Park, a tribute to World War I veterans, is a lovely shady spot for a walk or a picnic. The Old Depot Park is an actual depot building, and in 1976 it was renovated, now including a gazebo and museum. After a day of touring the wine trails, you’ll be ready to rejuvenate in a Southern Michigan Bed and Breakfast Association establishment. Maybe tomorrow we’ll hike through the Hidden Marsh Sanctuary, or paddle the St. Joseph’s River.
